Students from Richmond visit the Princess Alice Hospice

On Wednesday 19th October four students from Richmond visited the Princess Alice Hospice (PAH), West End Lane, Esher. The purpose of the visit was to get an insight into how funding raised by Richmond House last year has been used at the Hospice.

Summer (year 8), Kieran (10), Eliza (11) and Anisha (11), were given a full guided tour by Claire and Tim who are fundraising partners at the PAH. Claire discussed how the hospice provides a holistic approach towards therapy and treating patients to help promote health and well-being. We saw this type of therapy in action when we visited the ‘Man Shed’, a place where patients (men and women) can go and take part in carpentry activities and build things for use around the hospice. The ‘Man Shed’ was opened on Monday 20th June 2015 by John Inverdale and cost £100,000 build. At the end of the tour the students handed over a cheque for £1,713.11 that was raised by Richmond students during the 2015/16 academic year. Thanks to the amazing generosity of the local community and the exceptionally hard work that students in Richmond have put in at RES, this project was made possible.

We are looking forward to raising lots more money in 2016/17 and are starting the year with the Challenge the Teacher week, and the Santa 5K Fun Run on Sunday 27th November in Bushy Park.
