Year 9 GCSE Options

Year 9 GCSE Options

Year 9 students have been investigating specific subjects choices through lessons and through the Enrichment morning on Tuesday 20th December, where student were able to select 3 subjects in which they attended tasters lessons. These lesson were designed to provide students with insight into the GCSE content and skills needed for the courses selected. On Wednesday 4th January students had an options assembly where we explained the Options process and students will receive a copy of the Key Stage 4 Prospectus. This was followed up by assemblies for subjects that are not taught in Key stage 3. We appreciate that students can be both excited and nervous when selecting their options, and we have advised them to thoroughly review the prospectus, attend relevant assemblies and discuss their options with parents/carers before returning the Options form.

Tuesday 10th January6.30pm to 8.00pm Options Information Evening (Brief talk at 7:00pm)
Monday 6th FebruaryDeadline for options – return to tutor

Please note the date of the Options Evening. We would advise that you attend this event, even if you have had students go through the options process previously. This is due to the national changes within the education system. The talk will be at 7:00PM where we will explain the options process so that you can better support you child with their choices. Members of staff from each subject will be available to answer any queries you may have.

It is very important that students make the most of the opportunities provided and that they take time to consider their options. Tutors will be able to support students with the options process and if necessary additional guidance will be offered. Tutors have been asked not to collect in any forms until after Options Information Evening for parents/carer so that we can be sure you have had the opportunity to review the process thoroughly. There is no benefit to handing the form in early as options cannot be collated until the majority of forms have been handed in. It is far better for students to spend time considering their options, discussing their choices and making the right decision.
