Year 11 Bulletin

Dear Parent/Carer,

During the recent core PPEs Year 11 continued to show a focused and positive attitude. In terms of punctuality and behaviour during their examinations they conducted themselves in an exemplary manner. However, it was noted that a significant number of students are still arriving at their exams without the correct equipment (most notably calculators, rulers and other mathematical equipment.) Please ensure that your son/daughter is aware of the dates and times of all of their examinations and that they bring the correct equipment. Being underprepared for an exam may hold up the start of the exam whilst equipment is distributed. We also have a limited supply of spare equipment and if demand outweighs supply we will not be able to provide equipment for any students.

I am really pleased to announce that this year’s ‘Prom’ will be held at Burhill Golf Club on Thursday 29th June 2017 with tickets priced at £35 and students will be able to purchase their ticket after the Easter break. Students need to have achieved a minimum of 15 prom points to be eligible to attend the Prom. I am pleased to say that 86% of students currently meet the criteria. Students will be able purchase tickets before the deadline for prom point collection on the 18th May. If they are unable to attend or have won a ticket as part of a competition we will refund the money. The first Year 11 leavers’ committee meeting also took place this week; students are involved in deciding the design and theme of the Prom as well as organising both the Yearbook and leavers’ hoodies.

On Tuesday 21st of March we are hosting an event for parents of Year 11 students on preparing for the examinations and supporting students in the run up to the summer examinations. If you are able to attend and haven’t already responded please send an e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

On Thursday, to celebrate the fact that the vast majority of RES students have shown excellent focus and attitude, we invited every student in Year 11 to a reward breakfast. This was served by members of staff as recognition for all their hard work and dedication to their studies.

Once again many thanks for all your support this year and over the next few months.

Yours faithfully,

Mr R Blackiston
Head of Year 11
