AS/A Level Courses

 

AS subjects are taken in the first year of study and, if successfully completed, the A2 course can be taken in the second year. The structure of AS courses means that students will study three units leading to the award of an AS qualification if successful. Pass grades are A-E.


The structure of A2 courses means that students will study three units leading to the award of an A Level qualification if successful. Pass grades are A*-E.


A Level Pathway:


Primarily for students wishing to take four AS Levels (these could include a three or six unit Applied AS Level. Please note that the six unit Health and Social Care counts as two AS choices). Students are allowed to substitute no more than one AS Level subject option for a BTEC Level 3 course of their choosing. This pathway is accessible to students who have achieved a minimum of five A*-C GCSE grades including English and Mathematics.


BTEC L3 Pathway:


Primarily for students wishing to take four Level 3 BTEC courses. Students are allowed to substitute no more than one Level 3 BTEC option for one AS subject of their choosing. This pathway is accessible to students that have achieved a minimum of five A*-C GCSE grades regardless of subjects.


Mixed L3 Pathway:


For students wishing to take two AS Levels (these could include three or six unit Applied AS Level. Please note that the six unit Health and Social Care counts as two AS choices) and two BTEC Level 3 courses. This pathway is accessible to students that have achieved a minimum of five A*-C GCSE grades regardless of which subjects.
